Obituary

HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Augustine French, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hale Center Church of Christ with Rodney Roberts, involvement minister at Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, officiating. Burial arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. French died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in Lubbock. She was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Bluffdale, the sixth of eight children of Billy and Myrtle Lowe. On Nov. 4, 1933, she married MacFrench in Lipan in Hood County and they farmed near Cotton Center for several years. He died Nov. 24, 1988. In 1947, she moved to Hale Center and worked at Struve?s Department Store, Ruhl?s Family Store and the school cafeteria. In 1955, she opened French?s Beauty Shop, which she operated until 1990. She moved to a nursing home in Lubbock in 1994. Survivors include a son, Kenneth French of Hurst; two daughters, Minnie Lamb of Shallowater and Leta Archer of Stephenville; a sister, Bessie McClain of San Angelo; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer?s Association, 2200 W. Seventh St., Amarillo, TX 79106.
