HALE CENTER ? Memorial services for Arleen Freeman, 65, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Rowland, pastor, and Silas Short, Church of Christ minister in Throckmorton, officiating. Arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Lubbock. She was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Avery, grew up in Boxelder and moved to Kalgary in 1952. She graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1955 and married Billy Wayne Freeman on Feb. 13, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Hale Center in 1962 from Crosbyton. She was co-owner of Freeman Funeral Home with her husband until 1997. She owned and operated Freeman Florist from 1963-72. She attended Jessie Lee?s School of Cosmetology in 1977-1978 and owned and operated Main Street Salon until 1990. She then designed Santas in Nonnie?s Attic and sold them in Texas and New Mexico. She was a member of Hale Center Church of Christ, Hale Center Band Booster Club, and the Owl Booster Club. She served as an officer of the Hale Center Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in coordinating the first Miss Hale Center Pageant. She was active in the Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum, decorating for banquets and their "Christmas on the Farm" program. Surviving are her husband; a son, Gerald Freeman of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Darryl Barrett and Suzy and Raymon Calderon, all of Hale Center; two brothers, Joe Beaty Jr., and Ben Beaty, both of Lamesa; four grandchildren, Amy Penprase and her husband, Jon, of Odessa, Casey Barrett of Lubbock and Logan Pillow and Kolby Pillow, both of Hale Center; and two great-granddaughters, Abby Penprase and Anne Penprase, both of Odessa. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church.
