James "Jim" D. Franklin Jr. was born April 24, 1951, in Clinton, South Carolina, to James and Georgia Franklin. Jim passed away on Oct. 17, 2015, at 6:03 p.m. in Griffin, Georgia. He grew up in Pasadena, Texas, and enlisted in the United States Army. Jim served his country from Aug. 1, 1969, until July 26, 1971, in Vietnam. On Nov. 10, 1973, Jim married his long devoted wife, Elizabeth, in Plainview Texas. Jim enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard on Dec. 2, 1978, and left the National Guard on April 1, 1980. He was a faithful employee at Gebo's Farm and Ranch Store for 38 years. Jim's lifelong passion for adventure was evident in his love for motorcycles and hotrods. Jim was a faithful man, committed to his church and his family. Jim fought a four-year battle with cancer all the way until the end. Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Franklin; his children, Chris Franklin, Chris' wife, Cindy Franklin, and Jolinda Alewine; his sister, Linda Wheat; and his two grandchildren, Cyllie Franklin and Austin Wright; as well as friends and other family. In lieu of flowers, Jim's wish was for donations to the Wounded Warrior Project at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Plainview.
