Fox, Girard, Mrs. (Birdie Cleo)

Funeral services for Birdie Cleo Fox, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Jack McClung, chaplain at Prairie House Living Center, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fox died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in the emergency room at Covenant Hospital.

She was born July 17, 1916, in Waco. She graduated from Abilene High School and McMurry University and did graduate studies at Denver University.

She taught school at Stanton and Olton before moving to Plainview in 1942 from Canyon. She was head of the business department at Plainview High School and taught shorthand, bookkeeping and typing.

She was a Distinguished Life Member of the Society of Business Educators, a life member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and an associate member of the Sheriff?s Association of Texas. She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church where she taught third and fourth grade Sunday school classes. She was a past member and officer of the Woman?s Club of Plainview and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile and a past member of Pink Ladies.

On April 16, 1949, she married Girard Fox in Plainview.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Adin R. Batson of Corpus Christi; a brother, William Elmer Crabtree of Nashville, Tenn.; and two granddaughters, Breanna and Danelle Batson, both of Corpus Christi.
