Obituary

Girard Fox, 90, of Plainview passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Plainview. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in Plainview Memorial Park with members of the Masonic Lodge officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Girard was born Oct. 3, 1921, to Dee and Mae Fox in Wichita Falls, Texas. He grew up in Wichita Falls, Amarillo and Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School. Girard attended Tarleton College and received a cadet commission to the U.S. Army. He served during WWII and was stationed in Europe. He was a member of the Army Signal Corps. After his military discharge he worked numerous jobs, including bookkeeping for Jarvis Tull & Co., office manager for Smith Bawden Grain Co., retail store manager for Eaton Stationary, sales and promotion manager for KVOP and KATX radio stations, and ad executive for the Plainview Daily Herald. On April 16, 1949, he married Birdie Cleo Crabtree. She preceded him death in September 2000. Foxy was a member of Plainview Rotary Club, American Legion, Post 5399 VFW, First United Methodist Church, Knight Templar, 32nd Degree Mason-Plainview Masonic Lodge #709, Shriner-Kiva Shrine Temple of Amarillo, Central Plains Scottish Rite Association and the YMCA. Foxy is survived by one daughter, Virginia F. Batson (Ginger Fox) and her husband, Adin R. Batson of Corpus Christi, Texas; and two granddaughters, Breanna A. Batson of Austin, Texas, and Danelle A. Batson of Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Cleo Fox; and his parents, Dee and Mae Fox. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O.
