Obituary
Funeral services for Donald Ray Fox, 81, will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Drew Travis officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. He died Friday, April 12, 2002, at 11:55 p.m. at Covenant Medical Center of Lubbock. Mr. Fox was born March 27, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in East Cleveland and graduated from high school in 1939. He entered the Air Force during WWII and flew three missions in southern France, Holland and Wesel as a glider pilot in the 306 Troop Carrier Squadron, 442 Troop Carrier Group, 9th Air Force. He married Doris Raye Waddill on June 7, 1946, in Petersburg. He graduated from Cleveland State University with a degree in Business in 1948. He lived in California for about two years and moved to Plainview in 1950 where he worked at Bratcher Lincoln Mercury as office and parts manager until retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church were he served as an elder, Sunday School Superintendent, and Treasurer. He did voluntary tax returns and led aerobic classes for several years at the Hale County Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Darla Fox of Houston; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Purcell of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Marjorie Burns of St. Helena, Calif., and Jeanne Burns of Sechelt, B.C., Canada; and four grandchildren, Matthew Fox, Jonathan Fox, Dana Purcell and Walker Purcell. The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church.
