Obituary

Deen Estes, Plainview, entered the gates of heaven on Oct. 30, 2014, in Lubbock. He was born on Aug. 23, 1942, to Lon and Georgia Estes in Overbrook, Okla. Deen married Janelle Chandler on Sept. 6, 1960. He joined the U.S. Army on May 9, 1966, and was on active duty in Germany until he was honorably discharged on April 18, 1968. Deen worked for TxDOT for several years, until his retirement in 2007. He enjoyed volunteering for the Special Olympics, fishing, hunting, sports, racing, and spoiling his grandchildren (and most of the neighborhood kids, too). Deen was a member at College Heights Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Janelle, son Jerry, sister Mae Smith and brother Arnold Estes. Survivors include a daughter Denise Barnes; son-in-law Jerry Barnes; three grandchildren, Keila Haning and husband Jarrod, Trenton Estes, and MacKenzie Estes; his brother Jerry Don Estes and wife Rachel; several nieces and nephews; his dear friends Paula and Gene Cantrell; and his best friend Brodie Sinor. The family will receive guests from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at the Estes home, 2308 Norma, Plainview. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview. Arrangements were entrusted to Agape Funeral Chapel, Lubbock. The family suggests memorials be made to the Special Olympics or the American Diabetes Association . "I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith." 2 Tim. 4:7
