Elliott, Clinton O.

LUBBOCK - Funeral services for Clinton O. Elliott, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grace Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Clinton H. Elliott, the Rev. Billy Elliott and the Rev. Mark Striplang officiating.

Military graveside honors will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview by Sanders Funeral Home. Mr. Elliott died Friday, March 10, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo.

He was born in Wheeler County. In 1944 he became blinded while serving with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 on the USS Lexington. He lived in Plainview for 57 years, moving to Lubbock in 1992.

He served as commander and chaplain for the Disabled Veterans, councilman for the Light for the Lost and served as president for the indoor sports club. He was a member of the Assembly of God.

On Aug. 16, 1937, he married Falbye Braswell in Mangum, Okla. She died on May 3, 1997.

Survivors include a son, Clinton H. Elliott of Lubbock; a daughter, Carolyn Dutton of Weatherford; two sisters, Lucille Welch and Evelyn Welch, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three brothers, Eugene Elliott of Paris, Texas, George Elliott of Oklahoma and Clyde Elliott of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to the Light for the Lost, 5504 Wayne Ave., Lubbock, TX 79414.
