Obituary

Palina Jane 'Penny' Elliott Penny Elliott passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of July 27, 2015, her beloved dog Lexie at her side. She was 76 years old. She intensely disliked the name Palina and was affectionately known as Penny her entire life. Penny grew up in Plainview, Texas, the daughter of Austin and Joan Ragland. She graduated from PHS in 1957 and married Charles Proctor Elliott shortly after graduation. They had two children, Kimberly Ann and Christopher Lee. The family lived for short stints in Lubbock, San Angelo, Iowa City, Iowa and Austin, Texas, before finally settling in Commerce, Texas, in 1973. Penny lived in Commerce for 24 years, returning to Plainview in 1997 to take care of her father. After Austin passed away, she moved to Lubbock where she lived the remainder of her life at the Ventura Place retirement home. Penny loved her family and friends more than anything, most especially her two granchildren, Lily and Boone, who "finally" came along in 2005 and 2010 and whom she adored. She made many wonderful friends during her lifetime and was unfailingly generous toward them all. She and her best friends in Commerce, Lena Faulkner and Lucy Potts, traveled the world, from the great cities in Europe to Hong Kong, with Penny serving as the official "navigator." Penny is survived by her daughter Kimberly Ann Elliott and son-in-law Peter Uimonen of Bowie, Maryland; son Christopher Lee and daughter-in-law Maria "Tish" Elliott of Austin, Texas and their two children, Penny's pride and joy, Lily and Boone Elliott. She is also survived by her brother Ronny Ragland and sister-in-law Jan Ragland, of Lubbock, Texas; nephews and nieces Brian Ragland of Austin, Texas, Lance Ragland of Frisco, Texas, Miles Ragland of Austin, Texas, and Amanda Robertson of Lubbock and their families, whom she loved dearly. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Kornerstone Funeral Home in Plainview. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parklawn Cemetery, where Penny will be laid to rest beside her parents. All who knew and loved Penny are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Penny's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the South Plains Food Bank.
