Obituary

Graveside services for Mark Ellerd, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Petersburg Cemetery with Sven Appleton of Ralls officiating. Burial arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Ellerd died at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in Lubbock. He was born June 11, 1919, in the Lakeview community where he grew up. He was a farmer and horse trainer and trained cutting horses which won many awards. He was a member of Eastern New Mexico Appaloosa Horse Club and Golden Spread Appaloosa Horse Club. He retired from farming in 1976. On Nov. 8, 1945, he married Ruby Miller in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Vernal Ellerd of Arlington, Eddy Ellerd of Plano and James Ellerd of Levelland; a daughter, Oma Rycroft of Midwest City, Okla.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His parents, James and Eliza Ellerd; a brother, Charlie Ellerd; and a sister, Essie Briggs, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the Petersburg EMS. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kornerstone Funeral Directors
