Obituary

Memorial services for Tony Ellena, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Bartley Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Ellena died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at his residence while under hospice care. He was born July 27, 1929, in Lansing, Mich. He moved to Plainview in 1960 from Hale Center. He was a deputy sheriff at the Hale County Sheriff's Office until his retirement. He started the Hale County Reserve Officers program in Plainview and also coached youth baseball. He served with the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s and was a past worshipful master of the Masonic Lodge 709 in Plainview. On April 27, 1951, he married Rosie Blair in Frederick, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Debbie Ellena of Plainview and Stevie and Cindy Ellena of Amarillo; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Danny Newsom of Seth Ward; five brothers, Pete, Georgie, Teddy and Terry Ellena, all of Lansing, Mich., and Dominic Ellena of Plainview; and 24 grandchildren.
