Jayne died Feb. 22, 1989 at her home in Plainview at the age of 44. She was born March 4, 1944 in Dallas to Jay and Opal Edmiston. The family later moved to Plainview, where Jayne attended school, graduating in 1962. Following graduation she attended Texas Tech University, where she received a Bachelor Degree in History. She then received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Wayland Baptist University. She was a high school teacher in the Petersburg School District from 1966-1971, at which time she began working for Gebo's in Plainview, where she was head of inventory control.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jayne had one brother, Charles Jay Edmiston, who died in 2013.
