Funeral Services for Kenneth Wayne Dunning will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Wood Dunning Funeral Home Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today, Feb. 26, 2008, at Wood Dunning Funeral Home Kenneth was born May 17, 1934, in White Flat, Texas, to Bill and Nora Belle Dunning. Mr. Dunning died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He graduated from Matador High School in 1952 and attended West Texas State University on a football scholarship. He was a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. In 1963, with Blake Wood, he established Wood-Dunning Funeral Home, Inc., and then purchased Wallace Funeral Home in Tulia. He was a lifetime mortician. He married Virginia Russell, May 14, 1955, in Plainview. He served as president of the Panhandle Funeral Directors Assn., was on the Board of the Texas Funeral Directors Assn., district lieutenant governor, Optimist International, president of the Plainview Band Parents Assn., and Plainview Bass Club. He enjoyed fishing, golf and his grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Paul Fowler of Lubbock, Nancy and Victor Stukey of Plainview and Kay and Matt Bostelman of Cedar Park; a son and daughter-in-law, D. Wayne and Jenette Dunning of Plainview; grandsons, Brendan Wayne Dunning and Tyler Don Dunning; his mother, Nora Belle Dunning of Plainview; and sister, Raynita and Dr. C.H. Murphy, Jr. of LaRue. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Dunning and his mother-in-law, Deura "Sis" Abel. Memorials may be made to The Children's Home of Lubbock or a favorite Charity.
