Obituary

Funeral services for James Ray Downing, 87, formerly of Richardson, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Bartley Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Hale Center, officiating. Burial will be in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Downing died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Legends of the Plains Nursing Home in Hale Center. He was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Dallas to Tom and Alice Downing. He married Bennie McCarver in 1945 in Dallas. He loved the sport of hunting Texas and Colorado game. He attended the local Dallas Gun Club and collected, traded and sold guns after his retirement. He enjoyed nature and was passionate about hunting. Survivors include his wife, Bennie of Hale Center; one brother-in-law, Bob McCarver of Hale Center; and several nieces and nephews. His two brothers and one sister are deceased. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Senior Citizens Association in Hale Center. Online condolences may be made at [email protected]
