Obituary

Thomas I. "Tommy" Douglas, 66, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, in Lubbock. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson officiating and the Rev. Jason Smith assisting. Burial followed in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Thomas was born on Jan. 11, 1948, to Shelby and Mary Helen Douglas in Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1967. He married Cynthia Gibson on Oct. 17, 1966, in Clovis, N.M. He worked for Atmos Energy for 48 years. Tommy had a great sense of humor and would talk to anyone; he never met a stranger. He was an avid collector of the unique and unusual. With the help of his son Christopher, Tommy fully restored his 1966 Corvette. He loved his family, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a six-year recipient of a liver transplant. He loved his coffee-drinking buddies. Tommy loved his church family and was a member of College Heights Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Christopher Douglas; and one sister, Barbara Fowler. Thomas is survived by his wife Cynthia; one daughter Chrisondra Douglas and husband Stedman Jennings of Plainview; three sons, Thomas Allen Douglas and fianc?e Trisha Peterson of Palestine, Texas, Bryan Douglas and wife Imo Jean of Midland, and Kevin Douglas of Plainview; two brothers, Robert Douglas and wife Jan, and Donnie Douglas, both of Burleson, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn Kingston and husband Hobby of Wolfforth, Texas, and Kay Wood and husband Walter of Burleson, Texas; and six grandchildren, Mason, Hannah and Chloe Douglas, Brenan Douglas Jennings, and Bailee and Brody Douglas.
