Helen Earline Dement, 85, of Lubbock, Texas, died April 20, 2008. She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Childress, Texas. Her parents were Earl and Nola (Quattlelbaum) White. She grew up on a farm along with her two brothers and two sisters in Childress County. In 1940 she graduated salutatorian from the Tell school system. After graduation she worked as a waitress at a hotel until the desire to move to a big city prompted her to relocate to the Fort Worth/Dallas area. There she met the love of her life, Lowell Dement, and they were wed on Sept. 13, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas. They were married for 50 years and lived in Childress where he worked for the Fort Worth & Denver Railroad-Burlington Northern Railroad for 34 years. After he retired in 1979, the couple moved to Plainview. He preceded her in death in March 1998. Soon after, she moved to Atria Cottage Village in Lubbock where she was recognized several times as Resident of the Month. She resided the past four years at Bethany House in Lubbock. Mrs. Dement was employed at Pangburn Candy Company in Fort Worth and at the Singer Sewing Center in Childress. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Childress and Plainview. She was a member of the Pastor's Class in Plainview and also a member of the Roundabouters and enjoyed traveling with the group. Her hobbies included playing bingo, dominoes, listening to music, going on outings and visiting with friends. She considered her greatest accomplishments her marriage of 50 years and raising her daughter, Sandra. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra deVeau and husband, Tony, of Dallas; granddaughter, Stephanie DiPaolo and husband, Marc and great-granddaughters, Emma and Caroline of Woodbridge, Va.; granddaughter, Nikki Miller and husband, Andy Jacobus, and great-grandson, Miller, of Dallas; sisters, Faye Hall and Deanie Gannon; a sister-in-law, Pat White; and many nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Pearl White; three brothers, Glenn, W.E. and Nolan White; three sisters, Verdis Dorsett, Lucille Moore and Mary Ann Mitchell; brother-in-law, Vince Gannon; and one sister-in-law, Alma White. The private burial with family and caretakers was held on April 23 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy P.
