Obituary

ABERNATHY -- Services for Connie Deckard, 69, of Abernathy, and formerly of Petersburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, in the Petersburg First Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Boydstun officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home to receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. Mrs. Deckard died in Lubbock, Monday, March 9, 2015. She was born in Kerns, Texas, on Aug. 5, 1945, to Alvis and Lenora (Vest) Hill. She was the second youngest of nine children. She married Larry Deckard in Portales, New Mexico, June 30, 1967. Connie was a nursery worker for more than 30 years at the Petersburg First Baptist Church and was the present director of Little Footprints in Abernathy, Texas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Sinacek and brothers, Alvis Hill Jr. and William Hill. She is survived by her husband Larry Deckard of Abernathy; two daughters, Sheila Griffith and husband Paul and Amy Molinar and husband Felix all of Abernathy; three grandchildren, Ashtyn, Hunter and Ryelan. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Deckard and husband Charles of Blue Ridge, Texas, and Peggy Pretieri and husband Gene of Shelby, Ohio; three brothers, Bobby Hill and wife Pat of Odessa, Texas, Randall Hill and Gerald Hill both of Portales, New Mexico; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Connie was also preceded in death by a great-niece, Brooke Deckard, on Sept. 26, 2014. In her honor, the family suggests memorial donations be sent to NCTC Angels in the Infield Scholarship Fund, 1525 W.
