Obituary

Funeral services for Wilber J. "Shorty" Davis, 96, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Carroll Green officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. Davis died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview. He was born March 21, 1910, in Goldthwaite. He married Oleta Marie Davis on May 2, 1936, in Olton. She died Dec. 28, 1997. He lived in Hale Center since 1920 and was a custom harvester, working from South Texas to Colorado each year. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald Chapman of Hale Center; one brother, Marvin Davis of Lubbock; one sister, Eva "Billie" Ferguson of Hale Center; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Cindy Chapman, Monty and Andrea Chapman, Stephen and Lori Davis and Crystal and Dan Blasky; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Hale Center Public Library, Box 214, Hale Center, TX 79041.
