Obituary

Graveside services for Eva Ruth Davis, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Hospice Chaplain Oscar Chavez will officiate. Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, April 23, 2013, at the funeral home. Mrs. Davis passed away at Santa Fe House on Thursday, April 18, 2013. Mrs. Davis was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Cimarron, Kan., to Charles Christopher Gilger and Mabel Larinda (Spalding) Gilger. They moved to Tribune, Kan., where she graduated from Greeley County Community High School. She attended college at Hays, Kan. Then they moved to Canon City, Colo., and she graduated from Pueblo Beauty College. Ruth and Charles Davis were married on Feb. 7, 1944, while he was on furlough. She worked in the beauty shop until Charles got his discharge from the U.S. Air Corps. She then was busy being a wife, mother and homemaker. The family lived in Denver and Albuquerque, and then they lived in Lubbock for many years before moving to Plainview in 1967. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Plainview. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Davis; her sister, Elsie Gilger; her daughter, Phyllis Davis; and two brothers, Jim Gilger and Art Gilger. Survivors are her daughter, Nancy Ratliff and her husband Larry of Clinton, Mo.; granddaughter, Kathryn Howe of Iowa City, Iowa; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Lila and Audrey. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen Glenn of Las Vegas, Nev., and Pat Dodge of Pinetop, Ariz.; and brother, Pete Gilger of Lake Charles, La.
