HALE CENTER - Funeral services for A.J. Davis, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Griffin and the Rev. Roosevelt Moore officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mr. Davis died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Palestine. On Nov. 13, 1955, he married Bobbie Jean Wright in Clovis, N.M. She died Nov. 22, 1984. He married Atlee Smith in 1985 in Plainview. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Ardis Davis of Plainview, Jerome Davis of Anchorage, Alaska, Johnnie Davis of Houston and Larry Wright of Fort Worth; five daughters, Barbara Guinn, Brenda Hudspeth and Melba McIntyre, all of Fort Worth, Faye Jackson of
Odessa and Ruby Robinson of Lubbock; a brother, Joe Nathan Davis of Houston; a sister, Frankie Lockhart of Houston; three stepsons, Eddie Smith Jr., of Abilene, Henry Smith of Waco and Benny Smith of Killeen; four stepdaughters, JoAnn Wade of Hale Center, Ella Hager of Los Angeles, Calif., Edna Davis of Abilene and Mary Jones of Wichita Falls; 29 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 43 stepgrandchildren; 53 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bubba Smith, Robert Smith, Bennie Smith, H.T. Smith, J.D. Davis and Ocie Johnson.
