Cross, Richard E. (Dick), Mrs. (Martha Louise Covington)

Funeral services for Martha Louise Covington Cross, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cross died Sunday Jan. 25, 2004, at the Marretta Assisted Living Home in Lubbock.

She was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Levita, the third child of Edward Lee and Ora Elizabeth Burkett Covington.

In 1925, she moved to Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1930.

She won the Miss Plainview Beauty Contest in 1934.

In 1936, she married Richard E. "Dick" Cross. He died in 1991.

During World War II she accompanied her husband to various army post assignments throughout the South.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Coronado Study Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She played bridge and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Jim Kempton of Albion, Idaho and Sally and Sam Cummings of Lubbock; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Janis Cross of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to VistaCare Family Hospital, 1010 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX 79416.
