Obituary

Funeral services for Joe E. Crockett, 89, of Dallas, formerly of Plainview, will be at noon Saturday at Garland Street Church of Christ with J.W. Hamby and Emery Tease officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Crockett died Friday, March 16, 2012, in Dallas. He was born Oct. 12, 1922, to Ella Mae Brooks Crockett and Charlie Crockett. He attended grammar, middle and high schools in Melissa and McKinney, graduating from Doty High in McKinney. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, earning a Victory Ribbon and honorable discharge in 1946. He was a member of Ash & Carver Streets Church of Christ (now Austin Heights Church of Christ) in Plainview, Shady Acres Church of Christ in Houston and Avenue F Church of Christ in Plano. He earned his barber's license and practiced many years in Plainview. He married Dixie Christine Taylor-Bean in August 1957. She died Jan. 10, 2003. Survivors include his children, Dianna Kay and Emery Tease, Joe Lynn Crockett and Sallie Moultrie; sisters, Helen Crockett, Martha and James Wattley, Myrna Allen and Mae Etta Gatson; sisters-in-law, Ora Lee Crockett and Helen Ruth Crockett; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. His mother and father; brothers, Cecil "Jack," Walter "Bob," George, Edward James "EJ"; and sisters, Mollie Sanders and Charlie Mae Crockett, are deceased.
