Criswell, Elmer Lee,Sr.

Funeral services for Elmer Lee Criswell Sr., 93, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with Chris Criswell, a great-grandson, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Criswell died at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at his residence. He had been under Hospice care since August of 1996.

He was born Sept. 14, 1903, in Comanche County. He moved with his parents, Samuel J. and Samantha Stogner Criswell to Jones County in 1923. He was a farmer, rancher and self-taught carpenter, building family homes in Lenorah, Idalou and Plainview.

He married Allene Thompson on July 12, 1925 in Jones County.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their spouses, Elmer Lee and Betty Criswell Jr., of Plainview and W.B. and Joe Ellen Criswell of Idalou; two daughters and their spouses, Lura and Buddy Brown of Silverton and Linda and J.B. Smith of Plainview; two sister-in-law, Lena Mae Criswell and Jewell Criswell, both of Merkel; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter, Rebecca Dickson died in 1990.
