Obituary

Funeral services for Bettie J. Cox, 79, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, and the Rev. Joe P. Weldon, pastor of South Plains Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Cox died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at her residence. She was born May 23, 1927, in Kress to the late Ernest and Byrdie McDowell. She graduated from Olton High School and Wayland Baptist University. She also attended Hardin-Simmons University. She married William Waldo Cox on May 29, 1949. He died June 25, 1990. She taught school at Abernathy Elementary. She had been a member of Reaper's Bible Study Group and First Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Jerilyn Cox of Arlington; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Denise Cox of Plainview; one brother, Edwin McDowell of Valley Mills; and two granddaughters.
