Obituary

Graveside services for Ray H. Cox, 83, were at 2 p.m. today in Plainview Memorial Park with Harold Abney, chaplain for Helping Hands Hospice of West Texas, officiating. Burial was by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Cox died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, in Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney. He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Carter County, Tenn., to Clayton and Maggie Hinkle Cox. Mr. Cox served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Dollie Cox in July 1973 in Raton, N.M. He was a truck driver and a landscaper and enjoyed fishing, hunting and reading. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sharon Grubb of Espanola, N.M., Ann Long of Plainview and Raynell Smith of Ariz.; two sisters, Betty Clout of Campbel, Mo., and Hazel Cramer of Eastman, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His daughter, Ellen Betancourt, two brothers and one sister are deceased. The family suggests memorials to Helping Hands Hospice of West Texas.
