Obituary
Dickie L. Cox 61, of Lubbock went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2011. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, to celebrate his life with a Marine Military Honor Guard at Plainview Cemetery and Memorial Park, 100 Joliet St., Plainview, Texas. Arrangements are by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. The family will have a gathering to greet friends and relatives after the service from 3-7 p.m. at 211 S. Itasca, Plainview. Dickie was born April 27, 1950, to Vonnie and Marie Cox in Plainview where he attended first through seventh grade. He attended Idalou school eighth through 12th grades. He enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 19, 1969, where he trained with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, El Toro, Santa Anna, Calif. He received his medical training at the Navy hospital in Corpus Christi. He served as a medic with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines in Vietnam. He was honored with the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart. He returned from Vietnam to Navy Optician Technician Training in Yorktown, Va., where he served until his discharge from the Navy on Nov. 27, 1984. He moved to Houston then to Midland to attend Midland College. In 1991, he moved to Lubbock and partnered with his father to start Cox Telcom, Inc. He retired in 2007 due to his health. He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Donald R. Cox. He is survived by a loving son, Eric J. Cox, and parents, Vonnie and Marie Cox of Lubbock; seven loving aunts; three uncles; numerous cousins; and good friends. He will be missed.
