Obituary

Funeral services for Gerald L. Coots, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ with Eben Emmerson officiating, assisted by Jim Thompson, an elder. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Coots died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at his residence. He was born Feb. 3, 1919, near Bethany, Mo., and married Evelyn Terrell on Dec. 20, 1963, in Gruver. He grew up in Missouri and lived in Swisher, Dallam and Bosque counties before moving to Hale County in 1972. A farmer, Mr. Coots also did custom harvesting and road construction. He was a member of Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ. He also was a member of the Promenaders and Belles & Beauxs square dance clubs for more than 30 years. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Roger Jones of Plainview, Gerry Coots of Lubbock and Bill Coots of Dalhart; one daughter, Nadine Procsal of Richardson; one sister, Buelah Chamness of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Candice Edminster and Arlene Stewart; two brothers, Garland Coots and Jack Coots; and a sister, Orvice Clausen, are deceased. Visitation will be from 7-8 tonight at Bartley Funeral Home.
