Obituary

Funeral services for Willie Jaycee Compton, 58, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Gardner, pastor of Rehoboth Christian Worship Center, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Compton died Friday, June 15, 2007, at his residence. He was born June 17, 1948, in Foreman, Ark., to Augustus and Martha Lee Compton. He married Leslie Ray on April 20, 1973, in Plainview. He worked for the Amarillo VA Hospital as house supervisor and was a licensed barber. He was a member of Rehoboth Christian Worship Center. Survivors include, his wife; two sons, Justin Compton of Lubbock and Jonathon Compton of Lexington, Neb.; three daughters, Barbara Phelps and Tonja Ray, both of Plainview, and Natasha Compton of Phoenix; three sisters, Izora Shaw of Texarkana and Ira Roy and Urail Compton, both of Hale Center; six brothers, Ivory Compton of Dallas, Jackie Compton of Plainview, Jimmy Compton of Geneva, N.Y., Gordon Compton of Marietta, Ga., Hosea Compton of Hale Center and J.R. Compton of Temple; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
