Obituary
Jack W. Compton, 82, of Plainview, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ with the Honorable Jim Browning officiating and Weldon Browning assisting. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Jack was born on June 18, 1931, in Seymour, Texas, to E.M. and Maude Compton. He grew up in Red Springs, Texas, and graduated from Seymour High School. He then attended Abilene Christian where he met his wife-to-be. Jack married Noma Goodpasture on Sept. 6, 1952, in Lubbock. They moved to Plainview in 1969. He worked for W.R. Grace Fertilizer for more than 20 years, as the plant manager before it closed. Jack was an elder and a deacon of the Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ, where he was very active. He loved to go on missions trips and also loved to hunt and fish when he had time. He was a member of the Plainview Rotary Club. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Noma Compton, on April 18, 2013, and his parents. He is survived by two daughters, Laura Graham and husband Daniel of Plainview, Polly Jones and husband Kenny of Abilene; one son, Tim Compton and wife Stephanie of Lubbock; one brother, Donald Compton of Denton; two sisters, Evelyn Chisolm of New Braunfels and Marilyn Bush of Spade; five grandchildren, Justin Compton, Sean Compton, Amanda Davis, Daniel Graham Jr. and Marissa Jones; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Davis, Carson Graham and Carter Graham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
