Funeral services for Layne Coleman, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Coleman died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, in Prairie House Living Center. She was born July 3, 1924, in Slaton. She grew up in Ralls where she graduated from Ralls High School. She attended Wayland Baptist College from 1943 to 1944 and was a service representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 23 years. She retired in 1981. She was a member of First Baptist Church. On Sept. 20, 1980, she married Samuel E. Coleman Jr., in Plainview. Survivors include her husband; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerome Pemberton of Amarillo and Don G. and Kathy Pemberton of Euless; three stepsons, Sam Coleman III of Plainview, Randy Coleman of Weslaco and Harlon Coleman of Azle; two stepdaughters, Marilyn McBride of Arlington and Ronda Parks of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association. The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
