Colin Coe Sr., 63, of Austin, formerly of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, after a brief illness. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Plainview with William LaFont and Dr. T. Coe Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. There will be open visitation from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 2, 2013, at the funeral home. Colin Ashley Coe Sr. was born on Sept. 15, 1949, in Plainview to Benton and Ruby Nell (Ashley) Coe. He spent his early childhood between Plainview and Dallas and graduated from Plainview High School in 1968. He and Cheryl Davies were married on Sept. 19, 1975. He received both a bachelor's and a law degree from Texas Tech University, and then went on to work in the Texas State Legislature for more than 15 years. During this time, he worked for the Legislative Budget Board, the Speaker's Office, the Sunset Advisory Commission, and served as general counsel for State Sen. Royce West. He most recently served as chief of staff for State House Rep. Marisa Marquez. Colin loved cooking, watching old movies, listening to country or classical music, playing golf, etc. He had a quick, wry humor and loved telling outrageous stories. Most of all he loved taking his best friend, Max (border collie) to Lady Bird Lake on the weekends. Colin is survived by his family, wife Cheryl Coe of Austin; mother Ruby Nell Coe and son Colin Coe Jr., both of Lubbock; stepson Greg Childers and stepdaughter Christiane Cochran, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; and sisters, Suzanne Coyle and Nancy Donaldson, both of Angel Fire, N.M. Colin was preceded in death by his father, Benton Duane Coe, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Coe and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ashley. The family suggests contributions be made to the charity of one's choosing in lieu of flowers. You may express condolences online at www.lemonsfunerals.com
