Mae Elizabeth "Mama Mae" Cline died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Snyder. She was 95. She was born May 3, 1908, in Cuba, Mo., to Samuel Jeremiah Scantlan and the former Edna Bell Key. She grew up near the Meramec River in Crawford County, Mo., where she attended school. In 1925, she went to work for the telephone company in Chandler, Okla., where she met Charles Beckham "Daddy Beck" Cline. They were married Feb. 3, 1928, eventually settling in Plainview. He died March 29, 1982. After working for the telephone company off and on, she retired with 30 years of service. After retiring, she remained active in Plainview and was involved in church, the senior citizens center and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well-known at the Nu-Griddle restaurant where she had breakfast and visited with friends almost every day. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, C.B. Cline Jr., an infant daughter, Beth Elaine; her parents, three sisters, including her twin; and three brothers. Survivors include two sons, Paul Samuel Cline and wife, Connie, of Brownwood and John Edward Cline and wife, Linda, of Snyder; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Plainview with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Oddfellow section of the old Plainview Cemetery under direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home of Snyder.
