Clements Funeral Set for Tomorrow; Aged Hale County Man Celebrated Golden Wedding Only Six Days Before His Death
W.C. Clements, for twenty-five years a resident of Hale County, died January 9th at the family home, one mile east of Plainview, following an illness of about twenty-four hours.
Only six days before he and Mrs. Clements had celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. He had been in poor health for the past several years, but for the past six or eight months he had been up and was feeling fine.
Mr. Clements was born in Fayetteville, Ga., May 15, 1847, and spent his young manhood there. He served two years in the Confederate Army in Govern Joe Brown?s Georgia cavalry organization. At the close of the Civil War he came to Texas and settled in Cass County. There he taught school until 1873, moving at that time near Corsicana. There he met and married Miss Lizzie Weever. While living hear Corsicana he taught school and engaged in the cotton ginning business and farming, which occupation he followed until 1900. In 1900 he and his family moved to Plainview and settled one mile east of town at which place he lived until his death.
After coming to Plainview Mr. Cleemtns engaged in stock farming until he retired some few years ago.
Nine boys and two girls, all of whom are living, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Clements. In addition to his children he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Clements. His children are Billie Clements of Corsicana; Homer and Melvin Clements of Richmond, Calif.; Joubert Clements of Floydada; Mrs. Hattie Sparks of Vermillion, S.D., Solon Clements, Charles Clements, Pelham Clements, Louis Clements, Roy Clements and Bettie Clements all of Plainview. He had two sisters, Mrs. Roxie Ann Blalock of Fayetteville, Ga., and Mrs. Bettie Lester of Plainview, and two nieces, Mrs. C.L. Jones of Corsicana and Mrs. L.A. Knight of Plainview, and a nephew, Lewis Lester of Canyon.
The funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o?clock, conducted by Rev. J. Pat Horton and Rev. L.N. Lipscomb. (January 12, 1926)
