Obituary

Betty Jane Clayton, 89, passed away June 13, 2009, in Plainview, Texas. Graveside services for Mrs. Clayton will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Clayton was born Oct. 5, 1919, to Abraham and Audrey D. Noss in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High in Des Moines, Iowa, and later married John W. Clayton on Oct. 12, 1940; he passed away Nov. 13, 1992. Betty loved cross-stitching and gardening and enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She was a member of the Plainview Historical Society and St. Mark's Episcopal Church for many years. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Earnest Cromeans of Amarillo; one granddaughter, Casey James Cromeans of Amarillo; two nieces, Mary Noss of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sandra Briley of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and one great-niece, Melissa Clayton, and one great-nephew, Ryan Clayton, both of Morgan Hill, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Vernon Howard and Robert Noss; and one sister, Peggy Kellar. The family asks that friends donate to their favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
