Churchwell, W. R. ?Mutt?

Funeral services for W.R. "Mutt" Churchwell, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Garland Street Church of Christ with Karl King, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney. Mr. Churchwell died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Comanche County, the son of the late James and Cora Moore Churchwell. He moved with his parents to Hale County at the age of six months and had lived in Plainview most of his life. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1943 and was a farmer.

He retired from Hale County Noxious Weed Control District after 20 years and was a former member of the Plainview Masonic Lodge, was a 4-H leader and served with the 1st Cavalry during World War II. He was a member of Garland Street Church of Christ.

On May 12, 1949, he married Joyce Hooten in Lockney.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Vicki Churchwell and Paul and Dee Ann Churchwell, all of Plainview, and Mark and Rhonda Churchwell of San Angelo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kaylene and Jerry Hazel of Amarillo and Karen and Scott Snipes of Plainview; a brother, Marvin Churchwell of Plainview; three sisters, Vera Castleberry of Plainview, Cora Lee Vaughn of Hale Center and Mavis McClain of Bentonville, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren.

A grandson, Jeremy Painter, died in 1997.

The body will be at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time.
