Churchwell, Marvin E.

Funeral services for Marvin Efford Churchwell, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Bartley Silva Memorial Chapel with Don DeJarnett of Hale Center and Bill McClain of Bentonville, Ark., nephews, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley Silva Funeral Home.

Mr. Churchwell died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in Park Manor Nursing Home in Conroe.

He was born June 26, 1911, in Proctor, the son of James E. and Cora Effie Churchwell. He moved with his family to Plainview in 1925 and graduated from Plainview High School, where he played basketball.

Mr. Churchwell served as a Hale Center commissioner for 12 years, was a member of Masonic Lodge #709, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He had farming and oil and gas interests and he and his brother, Doc, operated the Cosden station on East Fifth Street. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

On July 6, 1934, he married Adria Faye Thornton in Clovis, N.M.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles Ray ?Chuck? Churchwell of Conroe; a daughter, Faye Margaret ?Missy? Hall of The Woodlands; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Churchwell of Bedwell; three sisters, Cora Lee Vaughn of Hale Center, Vera Castleberry of Plainview and Mavis McClain of Bentonville, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

His parents; a son, Marvin G. Churchwell; a sister, Woodie Doyal Churchwell; and four brothers, Charlie ?Church? Churchwell, :.B. ?Doc? Churchwell and Wendland R. ?Mutt? Churchwell, are deceased.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and suggests memorials to Cal Farley?s Boys Ranch, 60 W. 11 Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.
