Obituary

Graveside services for John Kenneth "Bill" Childress, 92, formerly of Plainview, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Plainview Memorial Park with Dr. Max Browning, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Services are under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Childress died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at James West Hospice in Fort Worth. He was born March 14, 1916, in Brownfield, Texas, to Marvin and Lula Childress. He married Mary "Jackie" Scott on Dec. 24, 1937, in Comanche, Texas. Jackie preceded him in death six weeks earlier. Bill was a Merchant Marine during World War II. He was district manager for Peerless Pump in Plainview. Bill and Jackie were longtime Plainview residents and members of First Christian Church. Survivors include one daughter, Lynda Childress Reeves and her husband, Bill, of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Annie Jenkins of Lubbock, Texas; two granddaughters, Susan Reeves Leinbaugh and her husband, John, and Reci Reeves Brooks and her husband, Bill; and four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kevin Brooks and James and Reid Leinbaugh.
