Obituary

Lena Marie Chiddix, 94, of Plainview passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Lemons Funeral Home with the celebration of life service to follow at 3 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Services are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Lena was born June 19, 1916, in Floydada, Texas, to Vige W. Smith and Matilda Barnes Smith. She grew up in Floyd County and attended Allmon Schools. Lena and Alton Chiddix were married Sept. 1, 1951, in Plainview. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1992. During World War II, Lena worked in an airplane factory producing B-59s, and afterward she worked for Warner Bros. as an inspector of movie reels. In 1949 the family came to Plainview where Lena served for many years in the dry-cleaning business, working for several cleaning plants. She retired in 1968. Lena was active in civic organizations, serving as president, noble grand and district deputy president of the Rebekah Lodge, from which she received the Decoration of Chivalry. She was a member and past president of the Plainview Delphin Club. She had been active in the Methodist Church and most recently attended College Heights Baptist Church. Lena loved playing Skip-Bo and 42. She was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Lena is survived by her daughter, Retha Moore of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Mike, Julia and Beth; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to Clowns Under Construction, 106 Redwood, Hereford, TX 79045.
