Obituary

Funeral services for Jimmy Don Chennault, 65, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Weiss, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Chennault died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born July 8, 1939, in Vernon, the son of Guy and Halva Chennault, and moved with his family to Plainview in 1953. He attended schools in Lockney and Plainview and also attended Wayland. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-60 and was an All-Navy softball player. He later played softball and baseball for leagues in Plainview. He owned and operated an agricultural chemical business for several years. Mr. Chennault served as a deacon and youth director at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a sports official for 35 years, calling football, basketball and baseball games. He officiated in the state girls basketball tournament for four years and also officiated NAIA playoff baseball games. Survivors include his wife, Alice; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Robert Mays of Baytown; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Rhonda Hareford of Plainview; his mother, Halva Chennault of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Bennie Jones of Peoria, Ariz., and Dorothy and Charley Westbrook of Sun City, Ariz.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Guy Herm Chennault of Sun City, Ariz., and Randy and Nancy Chennault of Peoria, Ariz.; three grandsons, Derrick Daniel, Carl Spence and Shanon Hareford; and one granddaughter, Amanda Hareford. A daughter, Tami Daniel, and his father, Guy Chennault, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Camp fund.
