Obituary

Funeral services for Jesus Chavez, 52, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen E. Godsey and the Rev. Santos Rodriguez, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today in Lemons Memorial Chapel. Mr. Chavez died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, in Covenant Hospital in Plainview. He was born May 9, 1949, in Rosebud. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1968 and was a lifelong resident of Plainview. He was employed by Southwestern Public Service Co. for 25 years and was a member of Iglesia Bautista Date Street. On May 7,1982, he married Yolanda Martinez in Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cynthia Hidinger of Hollis, Okla., and Lisa R. Martinez of Tulia; two sons, Jessie M. Chavez and Tony Solis, both of Plainview; seven brothers, Robert Chavez and Pete Chavez, both of Plainview, Alfred Chavez and David Chavez, both of Petersburg, Frank Chavez of Lubbock, Simon Chavez of Springfield, Mo., and Roy Chavez of Amarillo; a sister, Margaret Perez of Fort Worth; and 10 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or the Ronald McDonald House.
