Obituary
Former Plainview resident Nina Belle Chapman, 95, died quietly in her sleep on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at her home in Pflugerville, Texas. She was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Grandfield, Okla., to Orval and Myrtie Hoover. She married James Rudford Chapman in 1931. She had three children: James Dale, Sue Carol and Sandra Elizabeth. She attended Columbian Conservatory of Music in Dallas where she received a degree in music education. She taught music for 15 years. Music was her lifelong love. She was a member of a band in the early 1940s and played for dances around the Panhandle of Texas. She did not retire from work until she was 76 years old. She spent her retirement working with First United Methodist Church of Plainview. Her love for the church was important to her, and she shared her music abilities with the church for years. She received several awards for her work with the Cancer Foundation. This also was important to Mrs. Chapman since she lost her husband to cancer in 1962. She lived in Pflugerville for the past several years. Her two daughters, Sue Grigsby of West Plains, Mo., and Sandra Bloodworth of Round Rock, Texas; one brother, Col. Jack Hoover of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren survive her. Her husband, son, parents and four brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held in Plainview at the chapel of First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.
