Obituary
Mary Jo Chandler, 57, of Hale Center, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Hale Center with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial followed in Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mary Jo was born on Nov. 27, 1957, to Leonard and Betty Jo Bartels in Hereford. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1976. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1981 from West Texas State University. She taught at Mesa Verde Elementary in Amarillo for 12 years and worked for Hale Center ISD for 18 years. She served as an officer for the ATPE. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee for many years. Mary Jo was a dedicated teacher, supportive and devoted coach's wife and a very loving mother. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Paul of Hale Center; daughter Kacy Chandler of Lubbock; son Colby Chandler and wife Kaysee of Canyon; four brothers, Bill Bartels of Amarillo, Mark Bartels and wife Sylvia of Amarillo, Bruce Bartels of Hereford, and Steve Bartels and wife Sandra of Canyon; five sisters, Connie Goheen and husband Dennis of Littlefield, Jean Ann Swanson and husband Jack of Panhandle, Texas, Gail Saiz of Amarillo, Cathy Chase and husband Robert of Amarillo, and Christie Vanlandingham and husband Kyle of Frederick, Colo.; two grandchildren, Bentley and Paxton; and her in-laws, Winston and Ollie Chandler of Amarillo.
