Obituary

COTTON CENTER - Funeral services for Jimmy Champion, 74, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Hale Center with the Rev. Raymundo Manriques officiating. Burial will be in Center Plains Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Lemons Memorial Chapel. Mr. Champion died at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 near Cotton Center. He was born June 25, 1927 in San Juan. He moved to Cotton Center in 1950 and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. On Dec. 19, 1947, he married Dolores Flores in Grandfalls. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Betty Mesa of San Antonio, Diana Long of Plainview, Mary Gariby of Hale Center and Janie Long of Edinburg; three sons, Robert Champion of Amarillo and Joe Champion and David Champion, both of Plainview; two sisters, Aurora Sanchez of Elsa and Enadina Jimenez of Odessa; two brothers, Johnny Champion of Dumas and Gilbert Champion of San Juan; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
