Obituary

HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Agapito "Pete" Cervantes Sr., 63, of Hale Center will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview with the Rev. Jerry Kenney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Cervantes died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in his home. He was born May 16, 1938, in Thrall, and married Simona "Sandy" Avalos on Nov. 23, 1960, in Rotan. Mr. Cervantes was raised in Thrall and attended schools there. He worked for Hamlin Co-op Mill in Thrall in 1963, and Taylor Manufacturing. He moved to Hale Center in 1971 where he farmed until 1985. A brother, Jessie Cervantes, and a sister, Susana Cervantes, are deceased. Survivors include his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Stella and Catarino Esparza of Hale Center, Deanna and Efrain Gonzalez of Plainview, Susie and Gilberto Garcia of Plainview, and Kathleen Cervantes of Hale Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Agapito "Pete" III and Betty Cervantes of Lubbock; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Mary Cervantes of Hale Center and Roy and Kathy Cervantes of Hunington; seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Janie and Marcos Garza of Taylor, Mary and Isidro Valverde of Thrall, Lupe Cervantes of Thrall, Phyllis and Joe Riojas of Taylor, Delia Rangel of Thrall, Dolores and Omar Ybarra of Thrall, and Louisa Cervantes of Houston; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
