Billy Ray Cate, 79, of Plainview passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Billy was born on Oct. 4, 1934, to George and Millie Cate in Abernathy. He served in the U.S. Army and was a welder. He is preceded in death by one son Danny Cate; and four siblings, Alvie Jones, Vita Sherrill, Charlotte Martin and Bessie Cate. He is survived by two sons, Darrell Ray Cate and Kenneth Lee Cate, both of Lubbock; four brothers, James, Charles and Freddy Cate of Plainview and Joe Cate of Lubbock; two sisters, Thelma Rowlette of Amarillo and Nancy Greer of Plainview; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
