Obituary

Our beloved Mike Carthel, 64, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Brock, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating, and Mr. Charlie Ball assisting. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, March 18, 2011, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Michael Ray Carthel was born on March 10, 1947, in Plainview to Fred and Jo Carthel. He grew up on farms in the Lockney and Farwell communities. He loved the outdoors and the majority of his life worked in farming and agricultural research. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He married Brenda Sanderson in Olton on Jan. 10, 1981, and from previous marriages combined six children. Mike and Brenda square-danced for many years and currently belong to the Good Sam Travel Club where they had great times traveling and being with wonderful friends. We will all miss him deeply. He is survived by wife, Brenda of Plainview; mother, Jo Carthel; children, Michael Carthel and his wife, Cindy, Crissy McDaniel and her husband, John, Clint Carthel and his wife, Dianne, Debra Payne and her husband, Joey, Donna Mulkey and her husband, Johnny, and Brian Sanderson and his wife, Heather; 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter born just 15 days ago. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Fred; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Linda. Donations are requested to the American Cancer Society , 3411 73rd, Lubbock, TX 79423.
