Funeral services for Roscoe Carter, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Willie Ansley Sr., pastor of Greater New Hope Holy Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Carter died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at his residence. He was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Wortham where he attended schools. He moved to Littlefield and played baseball for many years and moved to Plainview in 1943. He worked for the oil mills and then worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 29 years, retiring in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Chinnie Carter of Amarillo and Telissa Carter of Plainview; a son, Fredrick Carter of Amarillo; a brother, John Carter of Plainview; a sister, Ella Smoots of Plainview; six grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Rosie Carter of Amarillo.
