Carter, John L.

Funeral services for John L. Carter, 67, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bartley-Silva Memorial Chapel with Wayne Lemons of the Ash and Carver Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Plainview Healthcare Center.

He was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Wortham. He played basketball at Booker T. Washington High School. He had worked for the telephone company for several years.

Survivors include four sons, Steve Carter of Plainview, John Carter of Midland, Jr. of Dallas and Charles Foster of Lubbock; three daughters, Loraine Johns, Linda Clark and Lisa Carter, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Ella Smoots of Plainview; three stepsons, Herbert Brown and Billy Lee Brown, all of Oakland, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Dorothy Jean Silas of Denver, Color., Barbara Brown of Dallas and May Ann Grigsby of Richmond, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
