Obituary

Funeral services for E.L. "Lee" Carter, 61, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joe Horn, pastor of United Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Carter died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at his residence. He was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Ellis County. He grew up in Olton, graduated form Olton High School and auto mechanic school. He moved to Plainview in 1984 and worked for Wal-Mart Distribution Center for 18 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of United Baptist Church. He married Shirley Colbert on March 22, 1985. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paul "Trey" Martin of Plainview, Melvin Thomas of Austin and Charles Thomas of Fort Worth; five daughters, Jennica McDowell and Tina Thomas, both of Lubbock, Lisa Thomas of Dallas, Vivian Thomas of Kansas and Ocie Thomas of Hawaii; a guard brother-in-law, Robert Long of Plainview; two sisters, Alice Sheffield of Olton and Josephine Springer of Plainview; and 14 grandchildren. His mother, Alice Carter, and foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, are deceased.
