LUBBOCK ? Funeral services for Elvira S. Cardenas, 74, former Plainview resident, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Templo Bautista in Plainview with Rev. Ed Sena, pastor of Iglesia Bautisto Templo of Lubbock, officiating. Prayer services will be tonight at Wood-Dunning Funeral Home at 7.

Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs Cardenas died at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997, in University Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Kaufman. She grew up in Floresville and Poth. She married Simon Cardenas Sr. on August 30, 1941 in Floresville. He died June 8, 1994 in Plainview.

She moved to Levelland in 1953 and to Happy Union in 1954. She moved to Plainview in 1959, and worked in the housekeeping department at Central Plains Regional Hospital from 1979-83. She moved to Lubbock in 1991 and was a member of Iglesia Bautisto Templo in Lubbock.

Survivors include two daughters, Dora Ramos of Lubbock and Elvira Villa of Rossmoor, Calif.; three sons, Simon Cardenas Jr. and Armando Cardenas, both of Lubbock, and Rey Cardenas of Amarillo; a brother, Jose Sanchez of Lovington, N.M.; two sisters, Refugia Perez of Altus, Okla. and Paula Estrada of Snyder; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A son, Javino Cardinas, died in 1987.

The body will be available for viewing at Wood-Dunning Funeral Home until service time.
